Electrician in Venice and Mar Vista

Near the coast, salt air is hard on outdoor fixtures and exterior outlets. Weather-rated devices and covers last longer here, and older beach cottages often need wiring updates.

Common jobs in Venice and Mar Vista

Before you hire

Check the electrician's C-10 license on the CSLB website, ask whether the job needs a permit, and get the quote in writing.

Coastal corrosion

Salt air corrodes exterior outlets, light fixtures and panel parts faster than inland. Weather-resistant devices and in-use covers are worth the small extra cost.

Small lots and ADUs

Adding an ADU or a backyard office usually means a subpanel or a service upgrade, and a permit.

Permits and utility

Venice and Mar Vista is part of the City of Los Angeles, so permits come from LADBS and power from LADWP. Your electrician normally pulls the permit and books the inspection.

Before you call: three quick checks

  1. Check the panel. A breaker in the middle position, or flipped the other way from the rest, has tripped. Push it fully off, then back on.
  2. Reset GFCI outlets. Outlets with Test and Reset buttons protect kitchens, baths, garages and outdoor outlets. One tripped GFCI can cut power to several outlets.
  3. Unplug what is on the circuit. If the breaker trips again right away, leave it off and get it checked.

Smell burning, see sparks or feel heat at an outlet or panel? Turn the breaker off if it is safe to reach and do not use that circuit.
