Electrician in San Fernando Valley

The Valley has many ranch-style homes built after World War II. Summer heat means heavy AC loads, so tripping breakers, panel upgrades and dedicated circuits are frequent requests.

Common jobs in San Fernando Valley

Before you hire

Check the electrician's C-10 license on the CSLB website, ask whether the job needs a permit, and get the quote in writing.

Summer heat

Valley summers push AC systems hard. Breakers that trip on hot afternoons often point to an undersized circuit or a failing breaker.

Pools and spas

Pool pumps, spa heaters and outdoor kitchens need GFCI protection and correctly sized circuits, and they are a common reason for a panel upgrade.

Permits and utility

San Fernando Valley is part of the City of Los Angeles, so permits come from LADBS and power from LADWP. Your electrician normally pulls the permit and books the inspection.

Before you call: three quick checks

  1. Check the panel. A breaker in the middle position, or flipped the other way from the rest, has tripped. Push it fully off, then back on.
  2. Reset GFCI outlets. Outlets with Test and Reset buttons protect kitchens, baths, garages and outdoor outlets. One tripped GFCI can cut power to several outlets.
  3. Unplug what is on the circuit. If the breaker trips again right away, leave it off and get it checked.

Smell burning, see sparks or feel heat at an outlet or panel? Turn the breaker off if it is safe to reach and do not use that circuit.
