Electrician in South LA

South LA has many early 1900s homes and craftsman houses. Original wiring, two-prong outlets and older panels are common reasons for a visit.

Common jobs in South LA

Before you hire

Check the electrician's C-10 license on the CSLB website, ask whether the job needs a permit, and get the quote in writing.

Craftsman and early homes

Original panels and two-prong outlets are common. A grounding upgrade or GFCI protection can make outlets safer without rewiring the whole house.

Panel replacements

Some older panel brands are known for breakers that fail to trip. An electrician can tell you whether yours should be replaced.

Permits and utility

South LA is part of the City of Los Angeles, so permits come from LADBS and power from LADWP. Your electrician normally pulls the permit and books the inspection.

Before you call: three quick checks

  1. Check the panel. A breaker in the middle position, or flipped the other way from the rest, has tripped. Push it fully off, then back on.
  2. Reset GFCI outlets. Outlets with Test and Reset buttons protect kitchens, baths, garages and outdoor outlets. One tripped GFCI can cut power to several outlets.
  3. Unplug what is on the circuit. If the breaker trips again right away, leave it off and get it checked.

Smell burning, see sparks or feel heat at an outlet or panel? Turn the breaker off if it is safe to reach and do not use that circuit.
